Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at 7:52PM Gary (pictured above on the right) came in first in the Singlehanded Multihull Division in this past weekend's Corinthian Race. In talking to him about race yesterday, he told me that he feels that he is pleased with how he really has the boat fine tuned and dialed in for singlehanding as of late. Typically the Sprint 750 is set up for a crew of 2 to 3, but Gary has rigged the boat so that he can control most of the lines in a more forward cockpit position. This allows him to tack, change sails, or put in a reef much easier while singlehanding the Sprint. It also allows for him to keep more of his weight in towards the center of the boat. With two recent singlehanded wins under his belt this year, Gary says that he is becoming quite attached to his Sprint. He sure has this boat humming.

We are happy announce that Helms Yacht Sales is now an official dealer for Dragonfly Trimarns on the West Coast! Last month at the Anapolous Boat Show, Gary had the privilige of taking a peak at the new Dragonfly 28, and he could not stop talking about how amazing it had turned out. It is a 28' boat that feels much larger, and it is just stunning.
Desinged and built in Denmark for over 30 years, Dragonfly continues to build some of the most amazing trimarans out there. Helms Yachts is the longest running Multihull Brokerage in the Weastern United States, and we have been interested in what Dragonfly has been creating for some time now. So it is exciting to be partnering with a company like Dragonfly that is producing trimarans that not only look stellar inside and out, but are also an amazing sail boat.
We'll have more info about the line of Dragonfly Trimarans on our website soon, but in the mean time please check out the following link for more pictures and sailplans.

Monday, February 22, 2010 at 1:01PM We found this interview of BMW Oracle owner Larry Ellsion from a local San Francisco news station. He seems serious about having the next America's Cup here on the Bay, and he mentions how exciting it would be to use multihulls again. This would great fun for local sailors and multihull enthusiasts. Let's hope the stars align and this actually happens. Just an idea... but there is plenty of room to build an America's Cup Village here in Alameda Island.

As long time multihull enthusiast it was exciting to see two giant multi's go at it for the biggest prize in sailing at the 33rd Americas Cup this past week. Local Golden Gate Yacht Club's trimaran BMW Oracles was dominant in their victory over the Alghini team.
The BMW Oracle tri is simply a technological marvel, and after the first race on Friday it was pretty obvious its wing sail was a huge advantage over Alghini's traditional soft sails. That being said, both of these high-tech monster multi's were averaging 20 knots of boat speed in about 7-8 knots of wind. It's great to see multihulls in a mainstream event like the America's Cup, and to demonstrate to a wide audience the stability and speed that make multihulls so much fun. Hopefully with this win the San Francisco Bay Area sailing community can host the next America's Cup. What a blast that would be!
