Adventurers Borge Ousland and Thorleif Thorleifsson will circumnavigate the Earth in a Corsair 31UC, and they will do this on the North Pole's Arctic Ocean. They set off in June this year. Their journey will be followed by National Geographic, and hopefully we will see footage and/or an article of their adventure.

Larry Ellison Interview: Will Next America's Cup Use Multihulls on the SF Bay?

We found this interview of BMW Oracle owner Larry Ellsion from a local San Francisco news station. He seems serious about having the next America's Cup here on the Bay, and he mentions how exciting it would be to use multihulls again. This would great fun for local sailors and multihull enthusiasts. Let's hope the stars align and this actually happens. Just an idea... but there is plenty of room to build an America's Cup Village here in Alameda Island.

The Wing is King! BMW Oracle Wins 33rd Americas Cup

As long time multihull enthusiast it was exciting to see two giant multi's go at it for the biggest prize in sailing at the 33rd Americas Cup this past week. Local Golden Gate Yacht Club's trimaran BMW Oracles was dominant in their victory over the Alghini team.

The BMW Oracle tri  is simply a technological marvel, and after the first race on Friday it was pretty obvious its wing sail was a huge advantage over Alghini's traditional soft sails. That being said, both of these high-tech monster multi's were averaging 20 knots of boat speed in about 7-8 knots of wind. It's great to see multihulls in a mainstream event like the America's Cup, and to demonstrate to a wide audience the stability and speed that make multihulls so much fun. Hopefully with this win the San Francisco Bay Area sailing community can host the next America's Cup. What a blast that would be!

Three Bridge Fiasco

We had a great time out on the Bay this past weekend on our Sprint 750. The Three Bridge Fiasco is a pursuit race where you sail to the three main bridges to the San Francisco Bay. What makes it so wild is that the direction you cross the starting line and order you round each bridge is completely your call. The conditions were pretty mild and the wind was a little inconsistent; luckily we caught some great wind on our last beam reach from the Golden Gate Bridge to the finish line. Overall it was great dusting off the rust and getting out there.
